Traits arrived about six weeks after the game launched, and they changed everything. Before Update 5, the only way to boost a brainrot's income was a mutation — one per brainrot, take it or leave it. Traits introduced something new: stackable modifiers that pile on top of a mutation and on top of each other. A single brainrot can carry a taco hat, a rainbow trail and crab claws all at once, each adding its own multiplier. That single design decision is why trait farming during Admin Abuse became the endgame it is today.

📜 THE SEVEN TRAIT ERAS

1. The Beginning — Update 5
June 28, 2025
The trait system launches with the very first two: 🌮 Taco 🌈 Nyan Taco comes from a cannon above the conveyor entrance that occasionally fires a taco onto a brainrot's head. Nyan comes from the Nyan Cat event — the map goes dark, rainbow cats circle overhead and occasionally hit a brainrot, leaving it with a rainbow trail. Both were admin-triggered from day one, setting the pattern for almost every trait that followed.
2. The Machine & Weather Era
July – August 2025
Update 8 (July 18) added the Bubblegum Machine — insert 10 Candy brainrots and the machine blows bubblegum onto units: 🍬 Bubblegum Then the August 1 update introduced natural weather events that can strike any server at random, no admin required: 💧 Wet ❄️ Snowy ☄️ Comet-struck These remain the only traits you can realistically get while playing solo on a quiet server.
3. The Ritual Era
August – November 2025
Update 12 (August 15) introduced the first player-triggered ritual: walk a Matteo into a tree or get it struck by lightning for 🎩 Matteo Hat The formula proved so popular that a whole family of rituals followed: 🪐 Galactic (La Vacca Saturno comet), 💥 Explosive (Bombardiro bombs), 🦈 Shark Fin (Orcalero), 🕷️ Spider (Los Spyderinis), 🎨 Paint (Chicleteira spray can) and 👔 Tie (Dul Dul Dul graduation). Rituals gave organized groups a way to farm traits on demand — the foundation of every modern trait-farming strategy.
4. The Country Era
September 2025 onwards
Starting with the Mexico Event (September 20, 2025), Admin Abuse sessions began celebrating countries with themed traits: 🪅 Sombrero 🇧🇷 Brazil 🇮🇩 Indonesia These typically involve country-specific characters interacting with brainrots on the carpet — La Cucarachas bonking units with hats, laser beams during the Brazil event, and so on.
5. The Seasonal Era
October 2025 – April 2026
Every holiday brought its own trait wave. Halloween (October 2025): 🎃 Jack O'Lantern Pet 🪦 RIP Tombstone 🕯️ Witching Hour Christmas: 🎅 Santa Hat 🦌 Reindeer Pet New Year 2026: 🎆 26 Valentine's: 🍫 Chocolate Easter: 🐰 Bunny Ears plus the colored Egg traits. The Eid Celebration (March 2026) made history as the first tiered trait system — balloon traits whose multiplier depends on the color you get, from 🎈 Orange Balloon 3x up to 🌈 Rainbow Balloon 6.5x
6. The OG Era
Late 2025 – 2026
The most valuable traits in the game arrived tied to OG brainrot spawns: 🍓 Strawberry 8x (strawberry bushes appear under a red sky when a Strawberry Elephant spawns), 🐱 Meowl 7x (tiny Meowl trees dot the map), 🚽 Skibidi 6x (Skibidi heads everywhere) and 🐷 John Pork 6.5x (call/decline buttons — the only trait that changes a brainrot's displayed name to "(Name) is Calling..."). These only trigger during their OG's spawn events, almost always during Admin Abuse with 25x luck — which is why an OG-trait brainrot commands a huge premium in trading values.
7. The 2026 Special Era
January – July 2026
2026 has been the busiest year yet: 😺 :3 (Mi Gatito ritual, Update 36), 😇 Halo (February 21 — the first and only trait to arrive alongside a mutation, applying only to Divine brainrots), 🌹 Rose and 👵 Granny (the March 21 concert Admin Abuse), 🎂 1 Year (Update 51 anniversary, May 16), 🍔 Burger (May 30) and more Admin Abuse exclusives like 🛸 UFO ⚡ Lightning 🔥 Fire — plus the one everyone avoids: 😴 Sleepy 0.5x, the only trait that halves income instead of raising it.

Why the first traits still matter today

Taco — the original trait — has had the most dramatic story of any. It started as a fun cosmetic, but in the current trade meta a Taco trait can actually reduce a brainrot's value by around 70% if the buyer doesn't want it. Not bad for two effects that started as a taco cannon and a flying rainbow cat.
